Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. 2024

The cottonwoods were at their absolute peak—displaying the most vibrant color I have ever seen in this region. Their golden hues stood in perfect contrast to the rugged terrain, creating a striking visual harmony. It was a sight that stopped us in our tracks, reminding us why fall in the desert is such a spectacular time for photography. This environment is one of my personal favorites. The way the cottonwoods thrive among the Bentonite Hills, scattered boulder rubble, dense rabbitbrush, and the meandering Fremont River makes for an ecosystem that feels both wild and beautifully composed. There is no shortage of compelling compositions here, from sweeping grand landscapes to intimate details that reveal the subtle elegance of the desert. During the second group of my 2024 Capitol Reef & Utah Badlands Fall Photography Workshop, we were met with truly unforgettable conditions. The interplay of sun and clouds created an ever-changing display of light, casting dramatic shadows and illuminating the landscape in ways that felt almost otherworldly. I’m excited to announce that I’ll be running the 2027 Capitol Reef & Utah Badlands Fall Photography Workshop once again. If you want to experience these breathtaking landscapes under ideal conditions, refine your photography skills, and explore areas few get to see, this workshop is for you. Join me next year for an unforgettable experience in the heart of Utah’s wild, untamed beauty.
