While wondering around in the dark, knowing a sunrise was coming, I tried desperately to find a composition. The sky exploded and I was still searching to frame up Red Eagle Mountain and Mahtotopa Mountain. I ended up framing up this image with the two mountains; Red Eagle Mountain and Mahtotopa Mountain in the center of the image, with Saint Mary Lake at the base of the tall peaks. The colorful clouds lit up in red, orange, and yellow colors while the blue sky poked through. The sun lit up Red Eagle Mountain and Mahtotopa Mountain, showing their height and form and the immense golden hue of angled sunlight. Photographing the East side of Going to the Sun Road is a great but also difficult. The peaks are tall and so are the trees.
