Towering, curved sandstone walls enclose a narrow slot canyon, with bands of brown and muted purple rock in deep shadow framing a slender orange-lit opening near the bottom.
Silent Echoes

Vortex

South-Central Utah, 2025

One beautiful day among one of the most beautiful slot canyons in the world. I drove out here in January of 2025 with a great guy: Warren D. He and I made the journey, got to a place to set up camp and then hiked into the canyon. We spent the entire day, roughly from 10:00am till 5:00pm photographing this canyon. The light was really quite nice, even in this low angled sun time of year. And we hiked through the majority of the canyon to end up near the end, which you see here. It was colder than hell, the night dropped into single digits and Warren and I both took some time to get out of our sleeping bags, headed to the fire to warm up. I have been working on a project called "Silent Echoes" since 2022. It's been really slow going but whenever I am in a slot canyon I try to slow down, breath, get full sensory immersion. In this state, I can create deep from within. The images are not obvious, they are thoughtful, created in 100% presence. Only in this state can I believe these images are worthy of being in this gallery.
