Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. 2026

A lone cottonwood tree leans into the fading sunlight. This was one that I did enjoy and one I worked with quite a while in the moment. I spent a good handful of days out photographing the new green on all the cottonwood trees around the Capitol Reef region and in the Boulder, Escalante area. I spend a lot of dedicated time hiking into new area, photographing and just trying to immerse myself out of the spring funk. This image was made of the new greenery on this lonely cottonwood tree, leaning into the sunlight as the sun faded over the cliff-side. The surrounding trees, sage and rabbit brush was difficult to work with and I had to move a few dead branched on the ground to clean things up. This was essentially roadside in Capitol Reef National Park, Utah.
