A shallow creek winds around large gray boulders between grassy banks and dense green trees, beneath sunlit red cliffs and a clear blue sky with a small visible moon.

Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. 2024

This morning was a beautiful one. Though the sky was lifeless in motion and formation, the land breathed, moved, and stretched in the morning light. This was the third trip I have made into this canyon. Each time hiking further, from new starting points and new ending points. Though on this particular backpacking trip, I hiked the entire route, west to east. This is not a long route, quite short actually but it takes a day worth of driving and hiking and if you come on a day that is too hot, which I have done, biting flies, heat and exhaustion will drive you out. This backpacking trip was planned correctly; spring. The entire route, staging vehicles, good friends, etc. All that was left was to enjoy every moment and to relish in the silence, everyday, all-day. And that we did! Backpacking Capitol Reef - 2024
