Rounded boulders and sunlit rocky outcrops fill a scrub-covered plain beneath steep, snow-dusted mountain peaks, with dark clouds obscuring parts of the ridge and patches of golden light crossing the ground.

Beneath Giants

Alabama Hills, California. 2025

A wild landscape this is: Alabama Hills, California. The sandstone, granite looking rocks, orange, yellow, black and gray, stacked onto of one another in unique geometric shapes. These are all in this valley, and above, the tallest mountains in the lower 48 states! What a wild world this is. After spending some time in Death Valley National Park, we ventured over here to photograph a new type of scene. There were four of us, all of us on motorcycles, camping off of them for five days throughout the desert and mountains. The Sierra Nevadas tower over the Alabama Hills, in the Lone Pine area of California. These mountains are damn near vertical. The valley is fairly flat, surrounded by unique geology, history and mountains.
