Twilight Meadows

I’ve returned to this location on many occasions, each time hoping for just the right conditions to capture its beauty. With every visit, I’ve also had the privilege of witnessing a herd of 50+ elk, adding to the mystique of this underrated spot. Tucked away from the main sections of Capitol Reef National Park, this area stands out for its oddly isolated pocket of white sandstone—just two acres of pale rock with no similar formations for miles around. On this particular trip, I set up during the fading light, but the initial harsh contrast proved challenging for capturing the scene’s subtle textures. Instead of packing up, I decided to wait until twilight, a choice that made all the difference. The soft, even light of twilight revealed the unique shapes, colors, and intricate details of the sandstone, blending seamlessly with the landscape without the intense contrast. This timing allowed me to capture the scene as it truly is—quiet, isolated, and full of character. South-Central Utah. 2024
