Canyon Glow

Zion National Park, Utah. Fall 2019

Morning light reflects off the red sandstone canyons in Zion National Park, which then lights up this stand of cottonwood trees deep down by the Virgin River that winds through Zion. The reflecting light that is present in Zion is an all-day phenomenon due to its immensely tall and precipitous desert walls. The sunlight shines onto one wall and that light is reflected all the way to the canyon floor. This light is soft, warm, and angled, creating a soft glow on whatever it lands on. This is the best light for photographing fall colors and is one reason why so many photographers come to Zion National Park to photograph in this season.
