Utah Badlands – 2019

About once every decade, this dramatic landscape near Moonscape Overlook transforms into a vibrant sea of yellow and purple wildflowers during a rare superbloom. Timed perfectly on this day, the sprawling Utah badlands surrounding Torrey and Hanksville were carpeted in brilliant color, creating an otherworldly scene reminiscent of a moonscape. The bright flowers masked the arid earth below, softening the rough texture of the badlands and transforming this rugged terrain into a stunning floral tapestry. Just behind this vibrant scene rises Factory Butte, adding a striking geological contrast to the vivid blooms. Once relatively unknown, this location has since captured attention on television and in photography circles alike, drawing nature lovers and adventurers eager to witness the ephemeral magic of a superbloom. This image showcases the layered geology and colorful wildflowers of the Utah badlands—one of Southern Utah’s most unique and breathtaking natural phenomena.
