Dying Wish

High Platues

In one of the most surreal moments I’ve ever witnessed, the desert sky erupted in color as sunlight pierced through a clearing storm over a thousand-year-old bristlecone pine. Perched dramatically on the edge of a 1,000-foot cliff, this ancient tree stretched outward toward the light, just as the final rays of the day lit its twisted branches in glowing hues of orange, pink, and red. Behind it, fast-moving clouds burst into color — yellows, deep purples, and storm-blues — creating a dynamic, almost unreal sky. Rain had come and gone, light had faded and returned, and for a brief moment, everything aligned. To stand within a high-desert forest that has existed for thousands of years and witness a scene like this is unforgettable. These are the fleeting gifts that nature offers to those who remain present, patient, and humbled by the land.
