Silent Echoes

Ever-Changing

Canyon Country, Utah.

During a three-day backpacking trip, I spent all of my time in this canyon. I left my home in Torrey and drove for about three hours to the parking area. I packed up my gear and I hiked approximately three miles and fjorded a small river to the entrance of this ubneleivable canyon. I set up camp at the large entrance, near the river, ate some grub and began to pack the camera gear I would need for the afternoon. This day was a pure scouting day. After setting up camp, I began the hike into this remote slot canyon. Upon entering, I knew it was going to be extremely special, with a lot in store as far as photographing goes. I hiked up the canyon just about to the end when the canyon opened up. Then I hiked back to a couple of locations to see how the light was interacting. The day was getting late and the light was gone in the deep slot canyon, so it was time to go back to camp, eat some dinner and get some rest. The next morning, I was in the canyon just after sunrise, so I could witness and store the memory of how the light interacted with the natural curvatures of the canyon. I spent literally all-day in here, about 15 hours and I had some strong information on locations to photograph, the colors and formations that were there at specific times of the day. The third day, I spent another 8 or so hours in the canyon that day before my ascent back up to the road way above. This was such a great photography related backpacking trip! This was one for the books!
