Bunes Beach, Lofoten, Norway. 2025
A waterfall flows down to the beach below while towering granite mountains rise thousands of feet into the clouds that linger on the peaks. This area, Bunes Beach as it is known, may be one of the most beautiful, mountainous areas I have ever seen. The combination of flowing streams, greenery, waterfalls, a beach and massive granite mountains, and the ocean, I mean come on. I have never seen landscapes quite like this. Norway is just on another level when it comes to these fjord lands.
I backpacked into here but first, took a ferry from Reine to a tiny village that has no vehicles. Here was a schoolhouse which some women were selling pastries and waffles. Of course, I had a waffle with jam and brown cheese. We bought a few pastries and began our short 2-mile hike to Bunes Beach. Once we crested the hill that separates the town from the northern beach, it was unreal: Towering granite peaks, massive boulders, green grass and flowers, etc. We hiked to the beach, set up camp and went out exploring. We camped here a night and then hiked up to this location and camped the second night. Here we were completely alone, didn't see a single person. And the views were much better with more diversity in what you could see and photograph.
