Hidden Splendor

Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. 2025

This was such a treat to walk up upon. I have been photographing in this region for years and never have I ever realized just how amazing a scene over here could be. The second I was standing here I knew I hit the jackpot for this area. A balancing rock, stand-alone cliff, insane leading lines, and the Waterpocket Fold cliffs in the background. I mean come on. Everything is directing the eye right where I want it to go. The light was quite amazing on this day, subtle foreground light, strong dappled light in the background. I came here for days on end in hopes to get the light I was hoping for: Monsoon storms of strong contrast, heavy clouds, nice light and lightning. Which I caught the day after this, which the files were all corrupt! I was sorely disappointed. Nonetheless, I really enjoy this scene right here. Finding locations to photograph in Capitol Reef is a bit tougher than most other parks in Utah. You really have to work for it here in Capitol Reef National Park. And I worked for it for years and the stars aligned finding this location.
