Southwest DesertHoly Grail
Southern Utah. 2019
The holy grail of landscape photography: a scene so surreal it feels like it came straight from a dream.
Here, atop a 2,000 to 3,000-foot cliff, rain, sun, virga, mist, sunrays, and ancient Bristlecone Pine trees—the oldest living organisms on Earth—all came together in a breathtaking sunset light. The interplay of these elements created an atmosphere so intense and magical, it demanded hours of shooting, far beyond the two we initially planned. As you can see in this image, every feature—from the cascading virga to the glowing pines—melded into a powerful moment that felt almost sacred.
This experience wasn’t just about capturing a photo; it was about witnessing nature’s extraordinary harmony unfold in real time. By nightfall, we found ourselves riding dirt bikes down in darkness, exhausted but deeply grateful for this unforgettable adventure.
