Hunting Ground

Backpacking Canyon Country, Utah.

The first night of a three-day intensive backpacking trip. The temperatures were mild and quite nice during the day. But once night fell, temperatures plummeted to single digits with high humidity. We froze each night, not expecting the nights temps to get anywhere near what they got to. We crossed a partially frozen and quick-sand-bombed river around four times this day. After each crossing, our feet were painfully cold. We had to hike about a mile to the next crossing and repeat. This feature was truly amazing. A stand-alone sandstone wall with pictographs all along it. There was not a single footprint or any graffiti of modern-day visits.
