Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Utah. 2023.
I stood in this same spot for hours, photographing the reflecting light on the water surface as leaves came flowing down the stream.
At first, I noticed interesting textures that the water was creating as it came to a rock under the water's surface. This drew me in. I photographed that for 30 minutes or so, then I placed myself a few feet behind, and that's when things got more interesting.
Shapes, colors, and leaves began to morph like a trippy video or kaleidoscope. With the camera on the tripod, I watched carefully as leaves moved past my frame and clicked the shutter cable as they did. From a hundred or more images, this was the one that really stayed with me during the emlimination process.
