Silent EchoesInvitation
Canyon Country, Utah.
A remote and wild slot canyon deep in canyon country. In order to get to this canyon, a two-hour dirt road varying in conditions and prone to catastrophic flash floods, followed by a two-mile hike, across a river and down a thousand feet of elevation. Though this doesn't sound like much, the journey to the dirt road itself takes quite some time from any town or city.
Though the journey is well worth it. This canyon is easily one of the most scenic canyons in the world. Colors varying from oranges, yellows, down to blues and magentas. The light that this canyon receives is also one of the best you can expect. Light emanates throughout different sections, pulling you further into the canyon until you are a mile or more in.
I spent three days at this canyon. I backpacked in and camped near the entrance in the winter months, solo. I spent each moment in this canyon, to the point that I got totally disoriented and did not know which way to go to exit the canyon. Famished from lack of food and water because I was so distracted from photographing. Nonetheless, one of the best experiences I have ever had.
It was absolutely silent in here. Deathly silent. Each small sound echoes throughout the canyon, feeling like a rock fall as it breaks the silence. I have incorporated this image into my new idea for a gallery entitled "Silent Echoes". This idea was formed while spending roughly 40 hours in this canyon without a soul around.
