Southwest DesertKingdom Come
Zion National Park, Utah – 2019.
A quick overnight backpacking trip in Zion National Park led to one of the most exhilarating displays of rapidly shifting light I’ve ever witnessed.
I woke before sunrise to find Christian Loya already hiking high above, while Seth Hamel stayed cozy in his sleeping bag. Moving quietly before daybreak, I found a perfect composition and set up my tripod, ready for the light show to begin. As the sun broke over the horizon, the clouds exploded into brilliant shapes and colors, with light racing across the landscape faster than I’d ever seen. Every moment demanded creative adjustments and sparked inspiration as the canyon transformed from darkness into radiant brilliance.
This fast-moving, dramatic morning light made for an unforgettable experience—a reminder of why Zion continues to captivate adventurers and photographers alike.
