Several brown pine cones with pale-edged woody scales lie among overlapping tan pine needles and bits of bark, filling a close overhead view of the forest floor.
Intimate Scenes

Layered

Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah. 2024

Pine cones and pine needles layered onto of one another. The complexity of a small scene like this is hard to manage but if you get it right, it is a lovely piece of art. This was no exception. The chaos was all over the place, thousands of needles carpeted the forest floor and the pine cones did the same. I told the group, during a Bryce Canyon National Park Winter Workshop to not get into the vehicle yet, we had to begin working with some nice small scenes. I discussed a few topics and added ways to simplify these scenes and they were off to the races.
