Densely eroded badland slopes rise above a flat, barren foreground, with branching gullies and scattered rocks between narrow ridges lit in pale pink and lavender against blue-gray shadows.

Layered Time

South-Central Utah. 2024

I have spent weeks worth of hours looking at this feature known as Factory Butte. Since my first visit back in 2016 I fell in love with this area. Since then, I have camped below Factory Butte and near Moonscape Overlook a few dozen times, many of those completely alone without a soul in sight. This morning, a recent morning, was no exception of beautiful. The twilight light landing on the unique formations of Factory Butte known as the Badlands of Utah. I stood here alongside four other photographers that I was leading and instructing for four days in the Capitol Reef region. This was during my annual Capitol Reef and Utah Badland Workshop.
