Silent Echoes

Mazement

Canyon Country, Utah.

This canyon is a remote and wild slot canyon deep in canyon country. I backpacked in and camped near the entrance of this canyon in the winter months, solo. I spent each three days here, each moment in this canyon, to the point that I got totally disoriented and did not know which way to go to exit the canyon. Famished from lack of food and water because I was so distracted from photographing. Nonetheless, one of the best experiences I have ever had. This section of canyon was about a mile into the canyon, heading upward toward the head. The color variations were surreal around each bend as the canyon walls shortened but became tighter. It was absolutely silent in here. Deathly silent. Each small sound echoes throughout the canyon, feeling like a rock fall as it breaks the silence. I have incorporated this image into my new idea for a gallery entitled "Silent Echoes". This idea was formed while spending roughly 40 hours in this canyon without a soul around.
