Opening Storm

Monkebu Hike, Lofoten, Norway. 2025

We began our hike up to the Monkebu Cabins area in the Lofoten Islands the day before this image. It was a 3.5 mile hike with 3,200feet in elevation gain. Once we got close to the highest point on the trail, rain came up. Shortly after we were in a cloud with torrential downpours and low visibility. Another hour later we were at our camping area. We set up our tent, barely, in high winds and soaking rains. Finally we got inside, took off our rain gear to reveal that we were soaked all the way through. It was a long night. After 14+ straight hours of torrential downpour with 100 feet of visibility, the storm finally broke and things began to clear. I was like a child running around trying to find somewhere to reveal the beauty of this moment. It was such a relief to see this occurring. The fog broke, the massive views became visible for the first time since being up here. It was a relief unlike anything.
