A fallen tree trunk spans a narrow, shadowed canyon, with strands of debris hanging above still water that reflects the sunlit orange rock walls beyond.
Intimate Scenes

Permanence

Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. 2025

Remnants of a wild flash flood. This log has been jammed into this rock, like it has grown there. It's been right there for years. I cannot believe just out embedded into the rock that it has become. Somehow, some of the bark still resides on the branch. It dangles into the soft and slow moving water deep within Sulphur Creek Canyon in Capitol Reef. This is about 4-miles into the 6.5 mile hike. After some waterfalls and a tight section of canyon it open up to see this cool view.
