Winter ScenesPinnacle
Zion National Park, Utah. 2020
Massive sandstone cliff features, make these Ponderosa Pine trees appear tiny in comparison. West Zion National Park was in the midst of a winter storm in the high elevations. I spent days up here photographing the winter landscape. The scenes were like nothing I had seen before and I was enthralled to say the least. Zion National Park doesn't usually get this kind of snow, but this year, gaining this elevation, the snow became a daily occurrence for about four days.
This storm produces about six inches of pure white snow. I drove up Kolob Terrace Road in West Zion in order to gain enough elevation to get into the fresh white powder. I began working with many scenes but this is the one that really stuck out to me. Framing this sandstone cliff feature with using these young Ponderosa Pine trees.
I stood on a plateau overlooking this scene, which I was standing only 12 hours earlier. Scouting for this moment; dappled light dancing across the sandstone cliffs while the tree in shadow.
