Sweeping sand dunes rise above scattered foreground shrubs, with warm orange light illuminating rippled slopes and curved crests beside deep blue-gray shadows beneath a pale blue sky with a few clouds.
Death Valley

Shift & Build

Death Valley National Park, California. 2023

We hiked out to the Ibex Dunes in high winds and low light. I was running at times in order to find the light that I wanted to photograph in. And I was running in order to find a new spot to begin to work from and that's how I ended up here. This section of dunes I was standing on gave me some election and height which resulted in a simplified scene to work with. I set up my composition, waited for the proper light and began photographing as the shadow took over the light. Once I got the light in just the right spot, I knew this was going to be a special image. The Ibex Dunes in Death Valley National Park are unreal. The way the sand grabs hold of the angled light is so special and beautiful it is hard to put into words. I offer wall art prints to showcase the beauty of Death Valley in your homes and walls so you can have a piece of Death Valley with you at all times.
