Autumn ColorsSilver Lining
Utah Badlands, Utah. 2024
Every year, I am reminded why the Capitol Reef region is one of the most captivating places I have ever photographed. The Utah Badlands are already a visual masterpiece, but when the cottonwoods explode into their golden hues, it transforms into something truly magical. The contrast between the vibrant foliage and the deep blues, soft grays, and rich reds of the badlands creates a scene that feels almost otherworldly.
Fall is the perfect time to be out here. The air is crisp, the days are balanced—not too long or too short—and the angled sunlight casts a warm glow over the landscape. Morning light enhances the depth of the terrain, while the evening sun ignites the canyons, creating an ever-changing palette of color and texture. The beauty of this season isn’t just in the grand landscapes but also in the small details—the way golden leaves gather along desert washes, how light filters through the cottonwoods, and the subtle shifts in the atmosphere throughout the day.
This moment was captured during my Capitol Reef & Utah Badlands Fall Photography Workshop, where we spend days exploring the untouched beauty of this region, seeking out the best compositions, and refining our craft in an immersive setting. Every year, I guide photographers to these remote, hidden locations, ensuring they experience the most stunning autumn scenes the region has to offer.
Join me in 2025 for an unforgettable photography experience, where we’ll chase golden light, explore rugged badlands, and capture the essence of Utah’s fall landscapes. Spots are limited—reserve yours today.
