Mountain LandscapesSinopah
The beginning of a solo backpacking trip! Sun, rain and rainbows were popping off at every moment. If only a composition presented itself for the rainbows. This Sinopah Mountain. A beautiful display of glacier carved, rugged nature. The weather was wild as I hiked the 4.8 miles to get to my main destination; Upper Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park. First, I had to acquire a permit a few days before, I camped nearby and was ready to hike in shortly after sunrise. The wind, rain and sleet was all around me. As you can see here. The light was dappling into the landscape and I couldn't resist photographing just a tenth of a mile into the trip. The moving was slow because of this.
I began the hike in the Two Medicine area of Glacier National Park. I hiked along the northern trail around Two Medicine Lake, along the Dawson Pass trail. After a couple miles I verged onto the Two Medicine South Shore trail which lead me to Twin Falls, a beautiful waterfall, then to Upper Two Medicine Lake. The plan was to camp here for a single night and photograph my little heart out. And I did just that.
For sunrise, I climbed on a mountain-side to photograph first light on Lone Walker mountain with Upper Two Medicine lake below. While doing that elk were bugling all around and two huge elk walked within 20-feet of me. Just as the sun was rising. I wish I got a better image of the experience the memory will stay in my own head.
