Winter ScenesSkim of Light
Whitefish Mountain, Montana. 2020
As the sun rose over the distant mountain peaks of the Continental Divide of Glacier National park, the sun illuminated these Snow-Ghosts that stood at the summit of Whitefish Mountain in Montana. These Snow-Ghosts (snow and ice covered trees) got hit with the light, as I stood precariously close the them, allowing the catch just the edge of light, showcasing the curves of each branch which was covered in ice and snow.
I like the silhouette style of image on this particular scene. There is so much more to show but this really allows the shapes to come to life as there are so many unique shapes here. And some that seem to look like some type of cartoon character or animal.
Whitefish Mountain is such a cool and unique area. The higher elevations catch dense fog and frigid temperatures which can get down to minus 60 degrees without windchill, which I experience twice here. In these conditions, the moister from the fog freezes on the trees and makes them into a frozen, hoar frost, snow caked covered trees.
