Blue-gray eroded slopes form rounded ridges around a winding, rock-strewn gully, with fine grooves tracing the bare surfaces and scattered pale stones standing out against the darker earth.
Intimate Scenes

The Bad Twist

South Central Utah. 2025

Unbeknownst to me, after a third attempt to access this region, this type of scene would be present just minutes into walking around this hard-to-get-to location. The pristine, untouched nature of this scene with the variety of textures and colors was immediately enticing. Though it was sunny and harsh light at the time, I knew once softer light became present I would be back to photograph this exact location. I did just that. The third attempt was the ticket to access this area. My buddy Seth Hamel and I spent hours throwing rocks and small boulders into a ravine, building a "rock bridge" that allowed us to eventually make it across the first of many obstacles. But before long we were standing here, camping here and eating dinner here. And damn, our minds were blown by the immense beauty and vastness of the area. I genuinely believe we are the only people on this earth that have photographed this area, with an actual camera. I do think some old-school farmers have came across this area and have likely taken a photo with their flip-phones. Or maybe not. Either way, this is a phenomenal area that we just took a group of 6 photographers to on our Utah Wilderness Workshop 2026.
