A shallow creek winds around rocks between trees with golden leaves, reflecting orange cliffs that rise in sunlight behind the shaded banks beneath a clear blue sky.
Autumn Colors

Tucked Away

Capitol Reef National Park, Utah. 2025

Photographing the cottonwoods in fall colors here in Capitol Reef National Park is beyond what you could imagine. The amount of variety in the landscapes, the changing colors of cliffs, soil, trees and the flowing streams filled in natural oil spills and reflecting light is unbelievable! This is no exception here; the massive cliffs along the Scenic Drive of Capitol Reef at sunset, in full glow, standing high into the sky, while below are massive cottonwood trees in beautiful golden foliage and below that, the Sulphur Creek winding and reflecting that golden light from the cliffs high above. My annual Capitol Reef and Badlands workshop is the cream of the crop, it doesn't get any better. I know this landscape like no one else and it shows during this experience.
