A narrow river winds through a deep, layered canyon below a broad sandstone ledge, with pink light on distant red cliffs and cool shadows across the rocky foreground beneath a clear blue sky.
Southwest Desert

Wilderness

Dirty Devil Wilderness, Utah. 2023

Where the trail seems to end and the thoughts and wonder begins. I spent my evening here attempting to piece together this puzzle but the light was far from right. I came back early in the morning as the sun began to illuminate the dark and expansive desert sky to the east. I brought my sleeping bag here, composed the image and waited in pure and absolute silence with a cold breeze skimming my face. I had ideas and thoughts come to mind and I went with them, writing what some would call poetry. One that I haven't shared and likely won't ever share. Hiking in the heat of what should be winter during this three day trip in January. Sweat dripped down our faces wearing minimal clothing in this paradoxically odd warm day(s). The days were sunny, no cloud in sight. The nights, same but the desert cooled tremendously.
