Layered sandstone cliffs in a canyon.
Southwest Desert

Folded Layers

Layers of sandstone, mancoshale and Wingate all reside here. Visible from ground level in Capitol Reef National Park. The variety of layers, rocks, shale and others is profound. The landscape photographer and the geologist can sit here for hours, gawking at the erosion of time. I found this location from exploring beyond what looked interesting.. I drove on what looked like a two year old road, not seen tire tracks in a while, into a dense forest of Juniper and Pinyon pines, and eventually to a cliff that overlooked this view here. The light was just what I needed for a scene such as this; dappled light. To showcase formations to conceal others.
