Mountain LandscapesOldman Lake
Backpacking deep into the stunning wilderness of Glacier National Park! This is Oldman Lake with Flinsch Peak rising at an Elevation: 9,216 ft, along the Continental Divide trail, deep within Montanas backcountry. This was during a 3-day guiding backpacking trip that I was leading. The trip was going phenomenal! The group was awesome, the views were even better!
This scene was one that I really enjoyed, so much that I hiked back up here to photograph it in twilight light after making dinner for everyone and hiking 6 miles up thousands of feet with a 55 pound backpack on.
We hiked from the main Cut Bank area, up the 6.8 miles and 700 feet elevation gain to the Morning Star Campground. We camped here and the next morning continued our hike to the Oldman Lake campsite. This second day was full of amazing views of literally hundreds of mountains peaks during the hike of 4.6 miles and 1,783 elevation gain. It was a great day and peoples spirits were high! The following day, after breakfast, we hiked down the trail and ended at the Two Medicine parking a lot along Two Medicine Lake, where the vehicle had been staged, full of food and drinks. The third days hike was 6.3 miles with a 1,644 foot elevation loss. What a great trip!
