Private cabins • homemade meals • pristine landscapes
A small-group photography retreat in Utah’s high country.
Join a fully guided photography workshop in Utah’s high alpine landscapes this fall. This immersive photography tour offers one-on-one instruction, small group sizes, and exclusive access to remote mountain locations filled with golden aspens, meandering creeks, and rugged peaks.
This Utah Fall Colors Photography Workshop is perfect for photographers of all skill levels looking to improve their landscape photography. With a professional nature photographer as your guide, you’ll explore scenic locations most tourists never see, all timed around the best lighting and fall-color conditions.
Utah photography workshops like this are rare: a small group, private cabins tucked among golden foliage, homemade meals, and locations where we have yet to encounter another photographer. The experience offers an extraordinary range of scenes, from alpine lakes and winding rivers to aspen forests and mountains rising above 10,000 feet. If you are looking for a workshop that checks every box, this is it: a chance to become fully immersed in nature, strengthen your creative vision, and make meaningful artwork in remarkable solitude.
A more thoughtful way to photograph fall color
What made you stop—and what are you truly trying to photograph?
This workshop is built around slowing down, looking more carefully, and learning how to create photographs with greater intention.
Fall color in the mountains can be incredibly beautiful, but it can also be visually overwhelming. Aspens, trunks, branches, grasses, shadows, highlights, color, movement, and distant ridgelines can quickly become chaotic unless you know how to simplify the scene and find the reason you stopped in the first place.
Rather than rushing from location to location, we spend time working through scenes carefully. I help each participant identify the subject within the larger landscape, simplify the frame, use light and color with purpose, and make deliberate choices about depth, balance, and visual flow.

Understand the chaos
Photograph forests with purpose and intention.
Photographing forests is one of the most difficult challenges in landscape photography. Visual complexity and chaotic layers can quickly overwhelm the frame unless you know how to approach them.
You’ll learn to work with forest light, isolate subjects, compress layers with telephoto lenses, and bring order to visual chaos through deliberate framing and intentional design. If forest scenes have ever left you frustrated, this workshop will change how you see them.
It’s all about the experience
Private cabins, shared meals, and days immersed in autumn.
Each participant stays in their own private cabin, set among beautiful aspen groves and just across the road from a large mountain lake. Fresh meals are prepared each morning and evening, giving the workshop a comfortable rhythm between long days in the field.
Transportation is included throughout the trip. We travel quiet dirt roads, photograph sweeping mountain views, work among golden aspens, and spend time near the Pando aspen forest, one of the largest living organisms on Earth.
At nearly 10,000 feet, fast-moving storms, dramatic skies, distant horizons, and changing light all become part of the experience. In all the years I have run this workshop, we have not seen another photographer in the field.
