Sacred

Cheif Mountain was and is a very sacred place for the Blackfeet Tribe in NW Montana. Boys turning into men would hike this mountain with no food or water. A vision quest. Though I can't understand fully what that was like, I can appreciate the effort, the lineage of this effort and tradition that has likely been passed down for thousands and thousands of years. When photographing this, I was thinking of those thoughts. What a different time we live in but what a great way that life was on so many fronts, but how damn difficult it was also. Chief Mountain is one of the more unique mountains on the Continental Divide of Northern Montana. Chief Mountain is actually sliced right in half; eastern side is Blackfoot Tribal Land and West; Glacier National Park. A big slap in the face the Native Americans that live here and have for thousands of years.
