Mountain LandscapesCliff of Despair
The Continental Divide was consumed by heavy, dark clouds as I drove up the Going to the Sun Road. I reached Logan Pass, the highest point you can drive in Glacier National Park. To see the cliff-like mountain peaks engulfed.
The wind wasn't pleasant due to the high humidity and low temperatures. Though I accepted, I moved on. As I drove down toward St. Mary Lake, the clouds began to separate, and Heavy Runner Mountain began to show its large cliff face. The face of Heavy Runner rises precipitously from the green valley, meadows below, all the way above the Logan Pass parking area.
I would guess approximately two thousand feet. Though only a few hundred feet of this Heavy Runner were present, you could sense the magnitude of this glacier-carved mountain.
I photographed this scene and many others similar to it in order to give a sense of its almost ominous mass. The clouds cover the right, bottom, and top of this particular spot of Heavy Runner with a dark, grey background of clouds.
