Intimate Scenes

Curling

The curl of winter leaves lay in the head of a slot canyon in the backcountry of Utah's desert landscapes. This scene, as easy to step on and walk over as it is to look up into the sky. There aren't a lot of folks to pay attention to the these small scenes but I love them. They make life more interesting, they make the grand landscape more interesting. These are oak leaves, not something we see a ton of here in southern Utah but given the right conditions of shade and water, they thrive. And in this scenario, there were only about 5 of the shrub oak trees. There isn't a lot of leftover nutrients to go around.
