Yellow and orange trees line a rocky lakeshore, reflected in gently rippling water, while mist softens the dark evergreen forest behind them and scattered leaves float above submerged foreground rocks.

Fishlake National Forest, Utah. 2025

One damn good view after another. This was during my annual Utah Fall Colors Workshop. This takes place on the mountains that surround the Capitol Reef Region in south central Utah. The sunrise was one of the most stunning sunrises I have ever seen: low clouds, perfect light, fog, fresh snow, and views that went 100 miles into the horizon. It was insane. After that we came here. This lake reflected the colors perfectly and within that pristine time-frame, fog rolled in. And at just the right moment; fog encircled the fall foliage across the lake. Wow, wow, wow. We were all loosing our minds on how amazing this was. We were laughing at how amazing this scene was. The golden aspens of varying color were reflected like glass in the lake and fog!? Just amazing!
