Strong reflected light illuminates this stand of cottonwood trees in a deep desert canyon in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. This scene, as many in this area, receive great light for hours upon hours. The sunlight shines onto one canyon wall and reflects that light onto the opposing canyon wall, and everything below. This results in great light on all that is in its presence. This nice stand of cottonwoods is no exception.
This canyon, known as Coyote Gulch, is one of the most dominant of all canyon in Escalante. The canyon has flowing water, hundreds of twists and turns, a few waterfalls, amazing formations and fresh springs for drinking. This canyon is likely the most photogenic and diverse of all the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument canyons.
