Western Forests

Thrive

Hiking up to Avalanche Lake, the forest you begin the hike at is a temperate rain forest. The way the storms roll through this area, near Lake McDonald of Glacier National Park, sit right here, producing a ton of rain. The amount of rain gives so much life to this area, the ground is alive, the trees are absolutely massive, that remind me of the Redwoods of California. But they are actually Black Cottonwood trees. They are huge! The hike to Avalanche Lake is very beautiful. You hike through many micro-climates, passing waterfalls, lakes, forest and eventually ending at Avalanche Lake, where glaciers reside.
