Western Forests

Fight for Life

Small larch trees growing their fresh green needles, very tightly growing together. This area of the North Fork region has a ton of new growth. Some of it LodgePole Pine, some of it Larch Trees. In this image, you see very tightly, overgrowing Larch Trees. The small, young forests here are in the beginning stages of competing for survival. Before long, the ones that grow the tallest will receive the most light, the most nutrients and will out compete the others and will be able to live. Many of the others will die, and decay back into the soil. It is a dog eat dog world out there, for flora and fauna.
