Western Forests

Stunted Growth

Dense fog reveals layers of forests high in an alpine environment. These trees have such a short growing season that they are most likely adults, maybe 20 years old or so. Come winter, these trees are completely covered in 30 feet of snow, and by the time the snow melts, winter is just around the corner. I have experienced the dense fog just a few times in this section of Glacier Park. It is always a bit spooky to imagine a grizzly bear appearing out of the dense fog. Because of that, I am constantly looking around to be sure that nothing is near me and I always have my bear spray on my hip, ready to be in use if ever needed.
