Thunderbird

24 miles in on our second evening of backpacking into Glacier National Park's backcountry. A beautiful display of flowers, light, and massive mountains all around. This evening, the second evening of the backpacking trip, at the Hole in the Wall campsite deep within Glacier National Parks backcountry. After hiking North-east from Boulder Pass Campsite, we were hit with views that were absolutely world-class. The vistas, mountain peaks, alpine lakes and all were stunning. We were hiking right along the Continental Divide of the Rocky Mountains. We eventually began to descend to Hole in the Wall campsite which was a 4.1 mile hike with a 346ft gain and a 1,234ft loss. Upon arriving to the campsite, Thunderbird Mountain standing at an Elevation: 8,789 ft, was towering over everything.. You can see the what is left of the Thunderbird Glacier on the left of the peak. There was no light on the mountain upon arrival, so I set my gear down and hung up my good in the campsite, and came back out to watch the darkness of clouds open up for just a few moments of sunlight across Thunderbird Mountains face. Just spectacular to witness. The flowers, as you can see, the Western Pasqueflower or the Sitka Valerian, was in bloom. A few Asters and other wildflowers were also present.
